The Facts about Child Sex Abuse

Child Abuse makes Children more vulnerable to sexual exploitation. More than 90% of children who are commercially sexually exploited have been sexually abused in the past.

81% of child sexual abuse incidents for all ages occur in the one-predator/one-child circumstances. Six to 11- year old children are most likely (23%) to be abused in multiple-victim circumstances.

 

Age is a significant factor in sexual abuse. While there is risk for children of all ages, children are most vulnerable to abuse between the ages of seven to 13.

 

Adolescents were 2 to 3 times more likely to have an alcohol use/dependence problems than non-victims.

 

Adolescents that reported victimization (sexual abuse or physical abuse) were twice as likely to be arrested than their non abused peers.

 

45% of pregnant teens report a history of child sexual abuse.

 

Sexually abused children were nearly twice as likely to run away from home.

 

Male adult child sexual abuse survivors, more than 70% seek psychological treatment for issues such as substance abuse, suicidal thoughts and attempts.

 

Pedophilic offenders often start offending at an early age, and often have a large number of victims (frequently not family members)

 

Females are 5 times more likely to be abused than males.

As many as 1 in 7 runaways reported to the national center for missing and exploited children likely became victims of sex trafficking

 

78% of children in child pornography were under 12 years old and 63% of those were under 8 yrs old. *0% were girls, 10% boys.

1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they are 18.

 

30% of women were between 11 and 17 at the time of their first completed rape.

 

27.8% of men were are 10 or younger at the time of their first completed rape.

 

96% of people who sexually abuse children are male, and 76.8% of people who sexually abuse children are adults.

 

34% of people who sexually abuse children are family members of the child.

 

The average age at which girls first become victims of prostitution is 12-14 years old, and the average age at which boys fist become victims of prostitution is 11-13 years old.

 

Only 12% of child abuse is reported to the authorities.
